I purchased my first MAC in 1994. It came with a modem. I discovered the internet. I was hooked.
I got a web design certificate and spent many nights coding sites by hand (it is amazing how many cat fights you hear at three a.m.). I went to work for a software company. I fell in love with designing for usability and finding opportunities to contribute to the ease-of-use of an end product. I became a Certified Usability Analyst via Human Factors in 2004.
I learned that: there are lots of solutions to any given problem, some more elegant than others; that it is much easier to tear down a thing than to build it; that logic, like beauty, is sometimes in the eye of the beholder.
And I was really proud when my kids spontaneously started spewing “that’s bad UI”, like a curse, when faced with unworkable things.
